Madurodam is the place where there are replicable model of famous buildings from around the country the Netherlands, really miniature, in 1:25 scale. This means that the miniature 25 times smaller than the original building. Uniquely, the trees that normally can grow to 15 meters, because it was in the mini area, trees can only grow in mini size as well, that is maximum 60 inches tall. The size of Madurodam is about as wide as a soccer field. From a rather high place like a restaurant terrace in the garden area, the entire area is visible.

Madurodam can be reached with a single tram ride from Den Haag CS station. Visits in December 2009 holiday season yesterday, when the snow is not thick with visitors is relatively quiet, making the park a quarter-circle can be enjoyed freely.

Madurodam supposedly comes from a Dutch family, Maduro. He said was built to commemorate George Maduro, a Dutch cavalry lieutenant who died in concentration camps of Nazi Germany on February 9, 1945. George himself was born in Willemstand, a town on the island of Curacao, Dutch colonies in Latin America. Before World War II, George is a student of Law of Universiteit Leiden. When German Nazi invaded Netherlands in the World War II, George joined the army of the Dutch kingdom. Madurodam, literally Maduro dam, was built by the parents of George with two goals as a charitable foundation and as a war memorial. Madurodam was first opened on July 2, 1952.

Uniquely, Madurodam regarded as a mini city, so has the mayor. The first person to be mayor is Princess Beatrix who continues to be mayor of Madurodam to become Queen of the Netherlands inaugurated in 1980. Since then, the mayor of Madurodam is elected every year from 22 junior high students throughout The Hague. Task of Madurodam mayor is inaugurating exhibition and opened new miniatures.
